Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Crisps

Express sweet treats made using tortillas! Invented when a friend dropped by unexpectedly just when my mid-afternoon sugar craving hit me. I didn’t even bother melting the butter, I just slathered it on with a knife like I was buttering a piece of toast, sprinkled sugar and cinnamon, then baked them for a mere 5 minutes. YUM!

These store well for a couple of days in an airtight container. The nutritional information below shows that each piece only contains 9 calories….however, this is somewhat misleading given you won’t be able to stop at one!

Sweet treats in a flash!

Ingredients

  • 3 tortillas
  • 2 tbsp butter , spreadable
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F/180C.
  • Spread butter onto each tortilla, like you are buttering toast. Alternatively, melt the butter and brush onto tortillas.
  • Sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
  • Stack the tortillas, then cut into strips, or triangles.
  • Spread in a single layer on a baking tray (3 tortillas should almost perfectly fit).
  • Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Eat warm or at room temperature.

Recipe Notes:

1. Stores for 2 to 3 days in an airtight container.
I cut these but cutting each tortilla into 6 strips (lengthwise), then the outer strips into 2 and all other strips into 3, this makes 16 pieces per tortilla.
2. Nutrition per piece.

I made these and they are my new favorite. They are super easy. I put mine in for a little bit longer. I like mine crispy.

Stop at one! Oh, you mean one tortilla, not one piece.
So that’s what we did. One tortilla each + coffee. Yummmm!

I emailed this recipe to my eldest daughter yesterday; I wanted her to make this for our party last night. She did…..it was SPECTACULAR!! She doubled the recipe & executed it flawlessly. It’s cute because at 16 yrs old she keeps telling me she won’t cook when she lives on her own. She claims she doesn’t know how to cook….but I keep sneaking moments like this in. She made this & the celery bruschetta last night (2nd time she’s made it) & I’m still not sure she realizes she did both of them all by herself.

Awwwww…..I love that!!!! What a fab mother you are, and I LOVE the cheekiness!! BA HA!! With you around, she will definitely be totally fine when she lives on her own! (Otherwise I’m sure you’ll be keeping her freezer stocked full!!!)

My aunt made the best pies on earth! She would take the scraps of dough and brush them with a little butter and sprinkle on cinnamon sugar and bake them for us kids – they were the best!

Your aunt sounds like my kind of lady! 🙂 I take scraps of anything that can be baked and throw them in the oven with cinnamon and sugar! Bread crusts, tortilla scraps – anything! 🙂
