Hospitals are closing their doors to homemade food donations from the general public for safety reasons. So I’m raising funds to provide nourishing meals to overworked frontline healthcare workers and putting some much needed revenue into local businesses approved by hospital authorities. #ShoutAMeal
16 April Update – 7 days in, $39,106 raised, 5,000 foods delivered to 13 hospitals!! Read more and see photos here, down in the Updates section. ❤️
Over 100 healthcare workers around the world have died from COVID-19, caring for those of us in need. I want to say thank you to our frontliners.
On Thursday 2 April 2020, I sent 250 muffins to the Westmead Hospital in Sydney as a small token of my appreciation to healthcare workers in the frontline, battling the COVID-19 war at great personal risk to themselves.
The next day, I sent 1,000 muffins to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Liverpool, Concord, Hornsby and Royal North Shore Hospital. Dozer shouted coffee for everyone in the Emergency Department at Canterbury Hospital, and arranged for lunch to be sent to the COVID Ward at Mona Vale Hospital.
And this week, I have 100 meals ordered to be delivered to the high-work-level wards of Westmead Hospital (COVID, ICU, Emergency), to be distributed to those who need it the most. Those who don’t have a hot meal waiting for them when they get home after a 15 hour shift. Those who have moved out of home to protect their loved ones.
I don’t want to stop.
And thus, Shout A Meal was born.
THE MISSION #ShoutAMeal
To provide delicious, nourishing food to our frontline healthcare workers in Sydney, and support local businesses struggling to stay afloat.
GOAL
To raise $210,000 to provide 500 meals per day for 6 weeks to frontline healthcare workers, and provide some much needed revenue into the hospitality industry.
$10 meals x 500 healthcare workers x 7 days x 6 weeks = $210,000
(PS I secretly hope I can raise much more to provide more meals and more business to locals)
Got questions about how it will all work, and around food safety? Good! Read the FAQ’s.

Life of Dozer
And finishing on a lighter note – no face mask could have prepared me for that moment when a bit of his food flew into my mouth as I mixed up his homemade breakfast 🤢

This is wonderful, Nagi! My husband is a dr on the front lines in NY. We had a bunch of pizzas delivered to his department yesterday and everyone was so grateful. They are working non-stop. And thanks also for your recipes–I am making them every day at home.
Nagi says
Thank goodness for people like him Danielle! ❤️

Very worthy cause, and great project! We’d sent a truck to Boston yesterday to get a load of hand sanitizer to distribute to Baystate Medical Center, and UMass/Amherst, Amherst College, and Smith College, because our region has been so short on supplies. It’s been tough times for first responders and food banks also. Donations of all kinds are so important now, especially for overwhelmed front line health workers and their support staff.
Bonnie says
Nagi,
What a great idea, and a huge way to help. Although we can’t be there with the front line workers to help this is a great way to do so. We send a big thank you all who are putting their life in danger while being under so much stress each day. A million times over a huge big thank you!
Nagi says
Thank you Bonnie!! N x

Thanks for the kind words Kit ❤️

Thank you Nagi for organizing this outreach in your community. The heroes you are feeding need every bit of support. I donated because you are a “go-to” for me as I navigate this thing I call cooking. Take care of yourself. Rita Wilson Austin Texas

Yay Nagi! I think it’s wonderful! Our school donated lunch for a local health clinic. It was a win, win for all! We helped support a local caterer who was donating lunches to our school and showed health care workers how much we appreciated them. They were so surprised and very thankful! We all need to support each other, we’re in it together!
Nagi says
You’re totally right CB!! N x

I live in Georgia, USA, and keep reading about our first responders and medical people. I am thinking of trying something like this in our area because this is definitely a way to take care of each other. Do you have any tips on getting started?
You are such a generous, considerate lady. God bless you.
Nagi says
Yes definitely something that should be an initiative around the world Lisa! N x

Gonda Hekkert says
NOOO!!!
I can’t believe you’re doing this!
Upset by the consumerism your website is showing during the Covid-19 virus.
Pls stop Nagi
Love you & your recipes, but enough…
christina says
you know if it bothers you, you are free to not read the post.
Nagi says
Gonda – it’s not consumerism. There is no other option. Most hospitals no longer permit food donations from the public. It HAS to come from a professional source with official food safety qualifications. I have spent tens of hours on the phone to hospitals. I repeat, I have no choice.
Patty says
God bless you Nagi for your research and the time to find the facts of what can truly help these frontline doctors, nurses and first responders. Thank you Nagi
Susi V says
I always steer away from arguments on social media… but I think your response is rather mean-spirited and undeserved. I don’t see how supporting local businesses and health workers who are having a rough time can be called “consumerism”. Anyway, you are clearly in the minority here – and surely free just to search for the recipes if the “consumerism” bothers you.

Hi Nagi, I have a son and his wife both being Paramedics, but in different stations out here in the western districts. I have made up a few casseroles and each time they divert past my home on their way to work they’ve collected them and taken them to their place of work. So, you and I are on the same page here just doing our little bit for our hero’s as they’re having to face the stress of this epidemic every day. My son and daughter-in-law have 3 littlies to then go home and contend with trying to live as normal a life as possible. Hubby and I are not allowed (by law) to go out and help them either, si it’s good that they are on opposite shifts doing their 12-15 hour days work. God bless them ALL.
I’m very proud of you too in getting this “Go Fund Me” together for ALL medical staff as they’re “ON THE FRONTLINE”.
Nagi says
That’s so lovely of you Josephine, but what a terrible situation to not be able to help. Stay healthy and safe Josephine, and thank you to your son and wife for everything that they do! N x
