All you need is hazelnuts, cocoa powder, icing / confectionary sugar, oil and vanilla extract to make your very own Homemade Nutella! It tastes incredible – smoother, softer, more hazelnutty, and most importantly, it tastes so incredibly pure, free of preservatives.
This tastes just like store bought Nutella – but better. This is a MUST TRY!!
I know this isn’t an every day type recipe. It’s a treat in my books. And with all the testing I did, I had no shortage of volunteers to take samples, that’s for sure. I had to get it out of the house immediately. It was seriously dangerous for me to have this in the house.
Because….Homemade Nutella. I’ll tell you something. Even if you don’t love Nutella, I really think you’re going to love this. Because even my mother, who doesn’t have a sweet tooth at all, could not stop eating it. I swear!
It really is incredible. There are just no words, the flavour is outta this world. I know I’ve already said this, but the best way I can describe it is to say that it taste pure. Real. You can actually taste the hazelnuts. You can actually taste the chocolate.
You’re going to be amazed how easy this is to make. It’s as easy as 1-2-3:
-
Roast hazelnuts;
-
Whizz until smooth (in my Vitamix!!!❤️); and
-
Add cocoa powder, icing sugar, vanilla and oil. Whizz until smooth.
Want to see for yourself? 🙂 I roped my mother into being my hand model for this video!
This is one of many creations I’ve been whizzing up in my glorious Vitamix blender. I swear, the Vitamix was made for making Homemade Nutella. It’s so ridiculously powerful, it makes the Nutella gorgeously smooth in less than 2 minutes. With a less powerful blender, you may need to whizz it for up to 5 minutes. 🙂
I made this Nutella for Nutella Crepes that I also shared today!!! Double blender action – I made the crepe batter in the blender then while the batter was resting, made this Nutella!
That moment when I opened the lid of my Vitamix to be greeted with this sight…..
KNEES. WEAK.
Of course, applications don’t have to stop at Nutella Crepes. How about Nutella Cheesecake? Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll-ups? Or these decadent Nutella Brownies? Nutella is welcome anywhere in my book … !
Have a wonderful weekend! How about staying in for brunch this weekend? The coffee is truly bottomless, and you can flop around in your PJ’s with your fluffy slippers, your hair sticking out all over the place and no make up.
That’s ME on Sunday mornings! – Nagi x

Homemade Nutella
Ingredients
- 250 g / 8 oz raw skinless hazelnuts (Note 1)
- 1/4 cup /30 g Dutch processed unsweetened cocoa powder (Note 2)
- 3/4 cup / 90 g icing sugar / confectionary sugar
- 2 tbsp hazelnut oil (or vegetable, canola, grapeseed or other neutral flavoured oil)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180C/350F.
- Place hazelnuts on a baking tray, roast for 8 minutes or until golden. Transfer into blender.
- Blend on the lowest speed until the nuts are ground into a crumb. Scrape down the sides as necessary. Then increase the speed to 4 until it turns into a paste. You may need to scrape down the sides - in my Vitamix blender, I did not have to. Then increase the speed as high as it will go and whizz until it becomes smooth with a consistency like honey.
- Add remaining ingredients, then whizz, starting on low and increasing to high. Whizz until smooth - the sugar takes the longest to dissolve (Note 3).
- Pour into a jar - it will be lovely and warm. Allow to cool to spread consistency. Do not refrigerate as the sugar will crystallise and it will become grainy.
- Use as you do Nutella! Especially fabulous with Nutella Crepes!

I am planning on making several batches of this for holiday teacher gifts. How many batches do you think I can cram in my Vitamix at once? I’m hoping 3, maybe 4.
Nagi says
Hi Sarah! I personally wouldn’t do more than 2, just because I would worry about making it completely smooth, but maybe 3 would work. Definitely not 4 – I think it will overflow <3

Hi Nagi! Forgot to ask you…I know you store this at room temp, but how long does it keep? I would assume a short shelf life.
Nagi says
That’s a good question Dorothy! The ingredients in it all have a long shelf life individually but I’m wondering about the pureed hazelnuts. Hmm. Tahini lasts for ages and ages (sesame puree). I need to do some research on this. I kept mine for around 5 days in my pantry and it was still absolutely fine!

Hi Nagi! I think I need a Vitamix! I (only) have two blenders, a KitchenAid and another for drinks (it has a spout on the lower part of the blender to dispense the drinks). Can’t wait to try this! My only challenge will be finding hazelnuts, might have to go to Knoxville to get them. I have walnut shaped cookie molds and I sandwich nutella or jam between two. I do this with madeleines too.
Nagi says
I think ONE of your blenders will be just fine!!! Oh – and I just sent you hazelnuts. Save yourself a trip to Knoxville!!! 😉 N x

Hi Nagi! You are too kind! You realize that people are seriously going to start to wonder about us sending food to each other halfway around the world! 🙂 PS After pricing the Vitamix I decided what I have will do me just fine.
Nagi says
Your blenders will work just fine Dorothy, just might take a bit longer to make them smooth! 🙂 N x PS Love to know how it works out if you try it!

Loved the video! It was hilarious! Oh yes, love the Nutella recipe too. ?
Nagi says
THANKS Evangeline!!!! 🙂 N xx

Looks absolutely delicious, definitely going to try making this – and the crepes too. Oh my, to have a pot of this Nutella hanging around, I guess it wouldn’t last too long. Can’t say I am a fan of the bought Nutella, but this one ticks all the boxes.
Nagi says
I promise you 100000x this is so much better than the store bought stuff, you will love this! N x

Go mom, nice hand modeling gig! I’d slather this on so many things… holy yum! Isn’t the Vitamin amazing? LOVE mine.
Nagi says
I am obsessed with mine!!! Just made Chimichurri in it tonight. Tomorrow – Daiquiris are on order!
CakePants says
This looks wonderful! I love that it’s so simple and even dairy-free. I tried a recipe for homemade nutella once that used cream and butter, and it turned out really greasy and unappealing. This is clearly the way to go!
Nagi says
I tried a few with chocolate too, so I hear your pain! 🙂

How can you fix it? I have the same issue?
