This 2 ingredient Pink Taco Sauce is my most used sauce for tacos. It’s creamy, cooling, with a little zing which goes so well with Mexican food! Use for dunking burritos and quesadillas or drizzling over a Mexican chicken salad. Honestly though, it’s a brilliant all-rounder I use on all sorts of things.

Instant Pink Taco Sauce

This sauce made with just sour cream and sriracha is not only my most made taco sauce, but probably my most made sauce full-stop. It’s incredibly versatile because it’s got a fairly neutral, creamy, cooling flavour so it goes with many things, from burgers to chicken skewers, Korean Beef Bowls to Lebanese crispy stuffed pitas (Arayes).

It’s the sauce I reach for dipping wedges and chicken tenders, though out of everything, I use it most frequently for tacos because I like how the cool creaminess balances the boldly spiced Mexican fillings.

I also like how versatile it is – switch sour cream for yogurt, add richness with mayonnaise or olive oil, make it spicier with more sriracha, or fresher with lime juice.

Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make it. Sriracha is the shortcut ingredient. Totally not Mexican but it brings garlic, chilli and tang all in one small hit, which is exactly why this works so well!

  • Sour cream – Use yogurt for a lower calorie option, or substitute 2 – 3 tablespoons of the sour cream with mayonnaise for a richer version, or add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil.

  • Sriracha – Brings salt, spiciness, garlic and vinegar, and tinges the sauce pink!

And that’s it! It’s not meant to be kapow flavoured because it’s used for boldly flavoured food, rather, it brings wetness and a little creaminess into the food. Keep it in the fridge for whatever the shelf life of the sour cream is.

Non-spicy Pink Taco Sauce

To make a non-spicy version, I use ketchup plus garlic, lemon juice and salt (quantities in recipe card). Yes, you need a few more ingredients to make up for not using sriracha!

No video for this, because this is a quick-flick recipe. 🙂 Hope you find it useful! – Nagi x

This is my most used taco sauce. It’s creamy, cooling, with a little zing – everything I want in a sauce for Mexican food. I use for all types of tacos, plus quesadillas and burritos, though I think it's especially great with fish tacos. Honestly though, it’s a brilliant all-rounder I use on all sorts of things – wedges, chicken fingers, roasted vegetables.
Sriracha isn't Mexican but it's a brilliant short cut – spiciness, tang, garlic, salt all in one bottle.
Store in the fridge and use within the shelf life of the sour cream. See notes for a non-spicy alternative. Makes 1/2 cup, enough for 12 tacos (4 servings).

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sour cream – substitute yogurt for lower calorie , or add mayonnaise for richness
  • 4 tsp sriracha (or other hot sauce – start with less and add to taste)
Prevent screen from sleeping

Instructions

  • Mix ingredients until smooth. If you want a looser drizzling texture, add a tiny bit of water.

Recipe Notes:

1. Non-spicy version – substitute the sriracha with 3 tablespoons of ketchup (or Aussie tomato sauce) + 1/4 tsp finely minced garlic + 1/4 tsp salt + 1/2 tsp lemon juice or clear vinegar.
